A picture often says more than a thousand words' is certainly true for the photo album 'The Second World War'. More than 900 black and white photos, collected by Micro De Get and short captions by David Boyle, give a clear picture of the violent events between 1939 and 1945 during the greatest global conflict of all time. In the first half of the book, the authors pay attention to the struggle in Europe, from the rise of racism to the liberation. The second half of the book focuses on Asia and the rise and fall of the Japanese Empire, from Japanese expansionism to the nuclear weapon attack on the Japanese motherland and surrender. Every important battle scene is treated and the compilers of the book have made use of images from "friend and foe." The many photos are of good quality. The book is provided with a short register and an overview of the bodies that have contributed to the photo collection of the authors. An edition for a large audience.
