These US Army Women’s HBT Coveralls are a faithful reproduction of the work overalls worn by members of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and other female personnel serving in the United States Army during the Second World War.

During the war thousands of women took over technical and logistical duties within the army. In workshops, motor pools, warehouses and maintenance units they often wore practical HBT (Herringbone Twill) work coveralls designed to protect their clothing while performing mechanical and technical work.

The garment is made from durable Herringbone Twill cotton, a distinctive zig-zag woven fabric known for its strength and resistance to wear. The design features multiple functional pockets, a front button closure and a practical cut allowing freedom of movement during work.

This reproduction by Kay Canvas is based on original wartime examples and is ideal for:

  • WW2 reenactment

  • historical displays

  • museum presentations

  • film and theatre productions

  • collectors of women’s military uniforms

For WWII enthusiasts this garment represents an important part of history, highlighting the crucial role women played in the technical and logistical support of the U.S. Army.

Subtle historical advice

For a complete historical impression this item can be combined with WAC HBT shirts, work caps or US Army service shoes commonly worn during maintenance and technical duties.

Historische Context

With the creation of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1942 and later the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), women became an essential part of the United States Army. They served as drivers, mechanics, radio operators, clerks and technicians.

In technical workshops and motor pools they frequently wore practical work garments such as HBT uniforms or coveralls. Period photographs sometimes show women wearing oversized men’s uniforms because supply shortages meant that clothing had to be shared or improvised.

HBT fabric was widely used by the U.S. Army for work uniforms due to its durability and comfort during long working hours.

These coveralls therefore represent an important but often overlooked aspect of WWII history: the technical and logistical contribution of women to the Allied war effort.
