This original M1 Paratrooper Helmet represents the type used by members of the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment during Operation Dragoon, the Allied invasion of Southern France in August 1944.
The helmet is an authentic front-seam McCord shell (1943), featuring a field-modified “rigger made” chinstrap, a characteristic feature of airborne helmets adapted in the field. The Westinghouse liner with early oval attachment points has been carefully restored with J. Murray parts, ensuring a solid fit inside the shell while preserving its original wartime look.
The surface still shows traces of its original net camouflage pattern, and the patina reflects decades of genuine wear and history. A rare, highly collectible helmet — restored with respect to authenticity and craftsmanship.

Helmets like this one often featured rigger-made chinstraps, hand-applied camouflage, and field modifications unique to each trooper. This helmet stands as a tangible reminder of the men who fought in one of the lesser-known, yet crucial operations of the Allied advance through France.
