Brass compass with a diameter of 5 mm.

During WWII, during operations over enemy territory, RAF aircrew were issued various survival gear such as maps printed on silk and worn as scarves, hacksaws concealed in boot heels and most importantly the escape and evade button compass. Several models were issued, some innovative ways of concealment were used, such as hidden behind a brass RAF button or sewn into collars.
