Iconic Luftwaffe-issue "B-Uhr" Beobachtungs-Uhr wristwatch redesigned by Ailager.
A combination of classic aviation design and modern technology.
The classic watch design used by Luftwaffe pilots during WWII
High-quality finish with genuine leather strap, authentic easy-to-read dial and presentation case
This incredible Ailager-branded Beobachtungs-Uhr (literally "watch of the observer") watch is modeled after the iconic watches used by Luftwaffe pilots, especially bomber crews, beginning in 1935. Originally designed as a reliable wristwatch with a unified dial for the fledgling Luftwaffe, the B-Uhr had a larger case and dial than was standard at the time. With such accuracy that these watches had to be signed on and off for every mission, the B-Uhr is both a wearable piece of aviation history and a practical modern watch.
Historic design with modern improvements
The most striking element of a B-Uhren watch is its large case and sleek dial. The simple swapping of hour and minute markers - with minutes in the center and seconds on the outer edge - made it easier for navigators to count critical minutes and seconds to the target. Large silver hands with luminous paint on the minute and hour hands improved visibility, complemented by luminous dots in the center of the dial.
This updated version uses safer modern luminous paint, which must be recharged under light after 20-30 minutes of illumination, unlike the radioactive elements used in the pieces of that era. The dial is protected by a crystal-clear, cut glass convex lens.
Authentic details and practical features
Designed to be worn over thick bomber jackets and flight suits, the B-Uhr features an oversized 7 mm structured winder for easy operation. The 42 mm matte alloy case matches perfectly with the black dial and strap, preserving the functional design. The crazy horse leather strap with double rivets adds to the authentic aesthetic.
The underside of the watch further emphasizes the historic recreation, with "Genuine Leather" and "Ailager" stamps on the strap, along with a fully engraved case back detailing the type, production number and more. A modern update places these engravings on the outside of the case back, allowing wearers to appreciate the details while maintaining the integrity of the original design.
