Formed on Jan. 28, 1943, the 381st Bomb Group was part of the 8th Air Force, responsible for bombing Germany and other Nazi targets.
The unit was equipped with the B-17 Flying Fortress, one of the U.S. Air Force's best-known bombers in World War II.
