This US Airborne Clicker WW2 D-Day Brass Cricket is a reproduction of the well-known metal clicker, also referred to as a “cricket”, as used by American paratroopers during the Normandy landings around D-Day.

The clicker is made from brass and produces a distinctive clicking sound when pressed. This small recognition device was used to make contact in darkness without calling out. One click could be used as a challenge, with two clicks in response confirming friendly troops.

This replica is based on the more compact ACME cricket size and is machine-made. A small hole at the bottom allows a cord to be attached if desired. A fine detail item for a US Airborne D-Day display, re-enactment setup, collector’s cabinet, helmet display or Normandy remembrance collection.

Specifications:
Material: brass
Dimensions: approx. 50 mm long x 23 mm wide x 14 mm high
Type: reproduction / replica
Sound: clear clicking sound when pressed
Detail: small hole for cord attachment
Use: display, re-enactment, education, collecting or decoration
Please note: this is a reproduction, not an original WWII item

Combination advice:
This D-Day clicker combines well with a US Airborne display featuring an M42 jump jacket, M1C/M2 paratrooper helmet, invasion armband, rigger pouches, first aid pouch and 101st Airborne or 82nd Airborne insignia. It may be a small object, but in a D-Day display it carries a large piece of the story.

Historical Context
During the night airborne operations of 5 to 6 June 1944, American paratroopers landed scattered across Normandy. In the darkness, among hedgerows, fields, villages and enemy positions, quick recognition of friendly troops was essential. The metal clicker, nicknamed the “cricket”, offered a simple way to make contact without speaking.

The 101st Airborne Division is especially associated with these D-Day clickers. The system was simple: one click as a challenge, two clicks as the reply. In the confusion of the night, such a small piece of metal could help turn uncertainty into recognition. Today, the D-Day cricket has become a highly recognizable collectible within US Airborne and Normandy displays.
