This reproduction of the US Army HBT Coverall OD No.3 is an authentic overall as worn by U.S. troops during World War II. Made of durable cotton Herringbone Twill (HBT), it features multiple pockets, a waist belt with buckle, and a comfortable fit. These coveralls were widely used by mechanics, tank crews, and sometimes infantry for maintenance work and field duties.
Perfect for re-enactors, collectors, and museums aiming for a historically accurate impression. Its strong quality also makes it practical for workshops or events today.
Historische Context
The HBT coveralls were introduced in the early years of World War II as practical work and combat clothing. OD No.3 (Olive Drab No.3) was the standard color between 1941 and 1944. From 1944 onward, this shade was replaced by OD No.7, a darker green that provided better camouflage in the European theater. These overalls were valued for their durability and ease of being worn over the uniform. They were extensively used by tank crews, mechanics, and troops during training and logistical duties.
Comparison OD3 vs. OD7
-
OD No.3 (1941–1944): Lighter green-brown shade, commonly seen in the early war years, North Africa, Sicily, and the early European campaigns.
-
OD No.7 (1944–1945): Darker green, better suited for camouflage in European landscapes, widely used from the Normandy landings onward.
For re-enactors, this distinction is essential: OD No.3 represents the early war period, while OD No.7 fits the later stages such as D-Day and Market Garden and later like teh Battle of the Bulge.
