M1940 dog tag chain set.

Officially called "M1940 Identification tag necklace" these where the chains issued with the dog tags at the beginning of world war two, later on in 1944 the US Army changed to the beaded (sometimes ball) style dog tag chain.

These early war dog tag chains where introduced in 1940, before then the dog tags where issued with a cord.

M1940 identification necklace chain features:

Chain is made from individual links.
The long chain forms a loop by the two ends being connected to a small metal loop.
The short chain connects to the small metal loop on the long chain and on the other end of the short chain is another small metal loop.
The two special twin hook fasteners which the discs fit onto are attached to the small metal loops. One twin hook fastener on each small metal loop.
Issued between 1940 and 1943. 
Includes a paper envelope which has full instructions printed on the front, just like the originals.
