This WW1 British Army Tommy Wash Roll is a faithful reproduction of the wash / shaving roll issued to British soldiers during the Great War.
Constructed from durable cotton drill, the roll features eight stitched loops to securely hold items such as a razor, shaving brush, comb, mirror, soap bar, and toothbrush. Many soldiers would also use extra space for utensils, spare laces, or small personal items
The roll measures approximately 40 x 22 cm when opened.
Historical Context
During WWI, maintaining personal hygiene in the trenches was challenging but necessary. The “Tommy Wash Roll” allowed soldiers to carry essential toiletry items in a compact, protective format. The roll’s loop system and closure made it a practical and reliable kit used by British infantrymen in many theatres of the war.
