This Safety Strap Eye Bolt Set is a reproduction set of the mounting eyes used for the canvas safety straps fitted across the open doorways of the WWII Ford GPW Jeep and Ford GPA.
The military Jeep was built with open doorways rather than conventional doors. A canvas safety strap was therefore fitted across each doorway. The metal hook at the end of the strap attached to a dedicated eye bolt mounted at the front of the doorway.
This set contains two safety strap eye bolts, enough for one vehicle.
Original Ford part number: GPW-1102396.
It is a small component, but exactly the kind of detail that makes a difference when restoring a wartime vehicle correctly. Ideal for restorers and owners wishing to complete their Ford GPW or GPA with period-correct style hardware.
Please note: these safety straps and mounting eyes are historical vehicle components. They must not be regarded or used as a substitute for modern approved seat belts or safety restraint systems.
Historical Context EN
During the Second World War, the Ford GPW and Willys MB were manufactured with completely open doorways. Instead of conventional doors, a canvas Safety Strap was fitted across each side of the vehicle.
The strap provided a simple barrier across the doorway. At the front, a metal hook on the strap clipped onto a dedicated eye bolt fitted to the body.
On the Ford GPW, this component was associated with Ford part number GPW-1102396.
The WWII Jeep safety strap should not be confused with a modern seat belt. It was primarily a simple barrier across the open doorway and became one of the characteristic details of the wartime Jeep body.
For an accurate restoration, small fittings such as these are just as important as the correct canvas, seats and other body hardware.
