This WWII US T14 Photographer & Cameraman Helmet is a very special metal reproduction of one of the rarest American helmet variants from the Second World War. The helmet is inspired by the US T14 “Photographer” helmet, a special model developed for war photographers, Signal Corps cameramen and war correspondents who needed more visibility and working space when filming or taking photographs than a standard M1 helmet could provide.
What makes this version especially remarkable is that it is not an ABS plastic reproduction. As far as we know, Delware Trading is currently the only supplier offering this rare T14 Photographer Helmet as a metal reproduction. The helmet is carefully custom-built using two metal outer helmet shells and fitted with suitable WWII-style components. This requires a great deal of handwork to create the distinctive shape, cut-out section and raised front visor in the correct style.
As a result, each helmet is unique. It has a solid and authentic appearance, making it especially suitable for re-enactment, living history, film productions, museum displays or a specialized WWII militaria collection. This is not a simple decorative copy, but a custom-made metal reproduction for collectors looking for a rare and unusual US Army cameraman or photographer item.
The helmet is fitted with a WWII-style liner and chinstrap. It can optionally be supplied with custom text or painted markings, such as PHOTOGRAPHER, CORRESPONDENT, US WAR CORRESPONDENT or Lee Miller Normandy 1944-style front stripes. Other suitable markings for a war correspondent, photographer or cameraman impression are possible on request.
Historical Context
During Allied operations in 1944, war photographers and cameramen often worked close to the front line. A standard US M1 helmet offered protection, but it could interfere with the use of still cameras and motion-picture equipment. The T14 Photographer Helmet was developed as a special helmet design that gave the wearer more visibility and camera clearance while still retaining a helmet-like protective profile.
Original T14 helmets are extremely rare and were produced only in very limited numbers. For that reason, this model has become a fascinating item within the field of WWII US Army, war correspondent and combat photographer equipment.
